Freedom and Such 🇺🇸
A Commitment Made; A Commitment Kept
When I entered the realm of blogging, I made a resolute promise to myself:
I will publish a new post every week.
Alas, life's capricious nature often throws unexpected obstacles in the way of our noble aspirations (aka, juggling a demanding full-time job and a vibrant social life can be quite the challenge).
So here’s the reality.
Last week, I went on a computer-free mini vacation. Without my trusty computer, it became challenging to prioritize writing. So, I … didn’t.
Thus, as I resumed my routine today, a persistent thought relentlessly occupied my mind: "I need to update my blog or I’ll break my promise to myself.”
Unfortunately, work had different plans, burdening me with pressing deadlines.
Seriously, who are these merciless beings eagerly awaiting my attention right after a holiday weekend? Savages, all of them.
So here's the deal: Today, I'm going do what I like to call a "Baseline Expectation" post. I'll just put something out there. But fair warning, it won't be anything impressive.
And here’s the major caveat: I’m still going to be proud of myself.
In a world that constantly pressures us to give our all, I'm embracing the freedom of doing the bare minimum.
Can I go the extra mile? Absolutely. But instead of getting all stressed about the quality of my work, a standard that I've habitually imposed upon myself, I'm content with meeting a new set of reasonable expectations.
This last week, I made a deliberate choice to prioritize something else, and that's absolutely fine.
Now, it's your turn:
Identify something on your to-do list and put in the minimal effort necessary to get it done.
If there's one word that encapsulates America, it's freedom*.
Today, grant yourself freedom from perfection.
*also McDonald’s, but that didn’t really go with the piece, obviously.
